2022 End of Year Highlights
Veteran Warriors highlights for the 2022 year:
Veteran Warriors' biggest triumph for the 2022 year was winning part of our lawsuit against the VA Caregiver Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers. Our win on Supervision, Protection, and Instruction invalidated the assessment decisions that were made from October 1, 2020 forward using the 2020 regulation. This ruling over turned the regulation, saving over 18,000 families from discharge, as VA was on the path to discharge over 90% of legacy participants. The ruling also paved the way for a moratorium for post expansion participants, appeals for post expansion participants, and is the driving force behind the 3 year extended interim rule published by VA in September of 2022 which extended legacy benefits to 2025.
This fight is far from over, there's a lot of work to do to get this program back on track, but we believe the right leadership is here to help steer what was a sinking ship. It's our intent to be involved and be the voice of reason moving forward, we must ensure full accountability without any discrimination for all eras.
This year, we did the unthinkable. We did what no organization has ever done and were told we could not do, that this lawsuit would never amount to anything. We have phenomenal legal counsel to thank for standing with us every step of the way to help the Veteran Caregiver community. When it comes down to it, rest assured, Veteran Warriors is fierce. We will stand for what is right, and we will always hold feet to the fire to ensure the best interest of our community is met.
It is with honor and gratitude that we serve those who served.
